Drama Campaign

the story so far.....

We are now entering the second year of our fund raising and are delighted to be able to report that we have passed the half way point, having raised just more than one million pounds in gifts and pledges. We still have some way to go but are hoping to start the actual building work in the summer of 2008.

Our last campaign event was an evening with Old Mancunian and TV historian Michael Wood at MGS in November.

Michael is currently on our screens with The Story of India, following past successes which include In Search of Shakespeare, Conquistadors, Saddam's Killing Fields and In the Steps of Alexander the Great. He entertained us with extracts from his film work and stories from behind the scenes.

A spectacular production of Singin' in the Rain was the last big drama event to be held in the old Theatre at the beginning of December.  Please enter here to read more about this event.

If you would like to know more about donating to the Campaign our Director of Development, Ian Thorpe, would be delighted to hear from you.  He can be contacted on
0161 224 1746 or 07831 180034.

The Drama Centre Campaign is chaired by Nicholas Hytner (Director of the National Theatre) who brought Alan Bennett and the actors from The History Boys to launch the campaign in 2006.

For further information on the Drama Campaign please contact our Director of Development
Ian Thorpe.

The Bursary Fund

The Foundation Bursary Appeal ran from 1998 to October 2003 and met its target of raising £10 million to support means-tested bursary places at MGS.

The Appeal was managed by MGS staff and expenses were kept below 1.5%.

Since October 2003 the Bursary Fund has remained open and we have been grateful to receive additional support as the demand for bursary places and the cost of supplying them have increased.

More than 220 boys have been able to join MGS because of the generosity of our donors. These boys, their families and the whole School community are indebted to every single person who has expressed, through his or her gift, faith in our vision of a future with the widest possible access to MGS.

We believe that this financial re-foundation of the School is now well advanced, but not yet complete.

Parents' Society

Contact Mandi Langkamp at mgsparents@mac.com

The Society was founded in 1966 to provide a meeting ground for parents of the School and exists to promote social contact amongst the parents, staff and friends of the School, and to raise funds to provide additional facilities for the pupils.

Members offer to contact boys and parents before they join the School, and second-hand uniform and kit sales are held. The Society provides refreshments for Saturday sports activities, and donates funds for special items of expenditure. In recent years these have included a major refit of The Owls' Nest, floodlighting of the School, minibus purchase and replacement of a grand piano.
